*NOTE: NU’EST fanclub hasn’t been created nor has Pledis released any statement on its name. Names like NU’TELLA, NU’STAR or others have been surfacing and some people are assuring those are official, specially NU’TELLA, but those aren’t. However, Pledis said they will consider any fans suggestions, and you can submit your ideas HERE, if you need to join their Daum Cafe, Elite-Rebels has a tutorial for that.*

It seems NU’EST is buzzing right now.
But in fact it buzzes anytime anything new on them comes up on AKP or tumblr.
But is always people coming little by little and asking the same questions.
Well, I firstly recomend you to join Elite Rebels. That’s your place if you wanna know more about NU’EST and the other Pledis Boys. And later, I’ll introduce you to some other links. And you can find there a TUTORIAL on HOW TO REGISTER AT NU’EST’S DAUM CAFE.
Secondly, I shall tell you guys the fanbase for NU’EST (International, I don’t know any Korean fans) started out of International Playgirlz and Playboyz
(mostly, people who don’t live in Korea nor Japan). Now there are other
fans joining who come just because they’ve seen something or read
something on the boys, but the base is still mainly After School and Pledis setled. Otherwise, we’d never got interested into getting that much info on them.
On about why we could know that much before hand on them, is because those fans with contacts into Pledis or who can get the Fan Cafe’s info and others, started posting on Pledis Boys like way before we all knew they would be Pledis’ Boys.
Elite Rebels was created on 2011, and I remember it
was way earlier than expected for an un-debuted group. Later the board
changed domains, but that’s something their admins and mods could tell
you better, not me.
1.The first time people got interested in a Pledis’ boy was when Pledis revealed they were taking auditions to find the final members for After School Boys. We got then introduced to JR as Jonghyun with a bad quality pic of him.
2.Since it hadn’t been too long after first HAPPY PLEDIS album, some people started looking into the booklet credits and taking out the names of the male choir that sings along at some part of the song Someone Is You (After School), and spotted Jonghyun’s name. Then some fans started wondering if the other male voices were meant to be training in the same group Jonghyun was: After School Boys.
Later we would find out more trainees names and faces, and from those, the ones who also appeared at the Someone Is You credits were: Dongho (Baekho) and Minki (Ren). On March 7th we knew that another boy from the choir, Youngwoon had joined the 3 Pledis Boys who didn’t make the cut for NU’EST and who will temptative be in TEMPEST (a second unit supposed to debut later on 2012). After then, any time a guy popped out into an After School or
Orange Caramel video, fans would take notice and wonder whether he
would be part of AS Boys.
3.Cameos on MV’s of Pledis Boys/AS Boys trainees:
-Play Ur Love (After School), Dongho (Baekho)—-> nicknamed Play Ur Love Boy
-Bangkok City (Orange Caramel), Jonghyun (JR)—-> nicknamed Bangkok City Boy
-Shangai Romance (Orange Caramel), Minhyun —-> Nicknamed Shangai Boy

4.On April 1st the news of the finalist to Pledis’ auditions name being revealed came out. Thought it was said of Lee Ji Hoon to be the winner and be training with the boys. Later, somehow, he withdraw from the group training process.
BUT on March 7th this year we’ve known thanx to those who purchased the Pledis Boys Magazine, that he’s been teamed up with DoYoon, Seungcheul and Yoosang, along with another new boy, so we now assume he’ll be part of TEMPEST and, maybe, he wasn’t introduced before because he might been training appart with the rest of Pledis trainees.
The other new boy’s name is YoungWoon, he was another one of the trainees taking part on the choir for Someone Is You song at HAPPY PLEDIS 2011.
Another rumored member was Park Jihoo, an ulzzang
that was already a little bit popular because of his connections with
other idols. It was also said that he would might be the groups’ leader,
but he debuted with his own band (indie).
Lee Hyun Hoo was also rumored to be training for the group, as he was already a trainee at Pledis’. It was also speculations on him becoming the leader, since he’s friends with Kahi and an Ex-SM Trainee.
5.Before knowing more, Kahi introduced Jonghyun (JR) and Dongho (Baekho) as two of AS Boys at a TV show (Hello). (June 6th the news were posted)
6.And afterwards, some pictures of the boys training were leaked. There were 5 of them: Dongho (Baekho), Minki (Ren), Seungchul, Minhyun and Youngwoon seem to be the boys of those pics, thought I am not 100% sure, since the quality ain’t that good and the boys faces later changed with the make-up and the aging thing.
7.It was said then that they would debut as a 5-6 unit(not sure of the number then) and eventually grow until being 8 members (being a draft of their current project). Later it was said they wouldn’t be following the AS graduation concept and, on September, it was announced the final line-up would contain from 7 to 8 members. These statements from Pledis is what nowadays still makes us wonder whether there’s a whole main unit beside NU’EST and rumored TEMPEST.
8.About that, a Tweet from Pledis’ Boss leaked
saying they would debut two units that some fans assumed to be part of
the same main group. That’s when the names NEW EAST and TEMPEST leaked. Sorry I cannot confirm the date, but I remember it was at the end of Spring (hopefully I am not wrong).
9.On June (the 20th) it was also posted that AS Boys debut song would be an answer song to AS’ Ah. However the first teaser has been revealed on March 3rd and the debut song name: FACE, and the description the boys have given to it as being a song that reflects what youths go through nowaday’s society, makes us think this news were just a rumour or maybe Pledis just changed their minds on the subject.
ON March 7th is been revealed that the
song reflects the emotions of teenagers, it also reflects teenagers
perspective on what’s happening to the society today. it has an
addictive chorus with intense rhythms, synth and bass beats.
10.Then we all saw some of the boys at After School’s BLUE MV for Wonder Boy and at their stage performances: Minhyun, DoYoon, Ren, Seungchul, Aaron(appearing for the first time), Jonghyun (JR) and Dongho (Baekho).
11.Also Jonghyun had already featured as a guest rapper in Uee’s CM single for Le Coq Sportife, SokSokSok. And appeared at summer’s AS fan meeting to accompany her.
During all Fall we were waiting for the boys to debut, however, the debut date, as well as Son Dambi’s comeback had been pushed back.
12.On October the 24th a CM for New Balance clothing featured Lizzy and Pledis Boys.It was the first time we saw Minki (Ren) had dyed his hair.
13.On November 22nd, after being revealed that Jang Doyoon,contestant of SBS Miracle Audition was also a Pledis Boy, it was revealed that the boys would also have an American-Korean member: Aaron, though the name wasn’t revealed that time.
14.When HAPPY PLEDIS info leaked, we then knew the boys would be present in the single one way or another. It ended up having all the boys, minus Dongho (Baekho), on the album jacket covers. The fact that Pledis little trainee Junghyeon was in the picture with the boys, caused some confusion, however a lot of AS fans quickly identified her as the girl dancing on Orange Caramel’s A~ing! and AS’ Bang! and we knew that she would have nothing to do with the boys group.
15.On November 15th it had been said that the boys would be in Happy Pledis, with a sneak peak of all PLEDIS acts being in that album (minus the two Pre-School girls singing in Love Letter, Yoo Ara and Hyelim, and Baekho wasn’t in that shoot either)
16.On November 21st the whole photoshoot was revealed. And it was said that ‘the seventh member group’ would participate. So back then, we still believed whether they were going to be splitted in two units, they would also be part of the same main group.
17.When the MV was revealed and the news on how they would perform the song on music shows, we all could see that Dongho was still there and he had changed his stage name into Baekho (White Tiger). It was also the first time the name JR was used for Jonghyun.
The boys also participated in CeCi’s magazine photoshoot for Christmas along with Son Dambi, AS and Junghyeon.
18.While still having the HAPPY PLEDIS album previews, 5 pictures of 5 Pledis Boys were revealed. It was the first time we started guessing for sure that only JR, Baekho, Minhyun, Ren and Aaron would be in the same group and debut first.
We all know what came After that.
19.On December 29th they were officially introduced as a whole at theSBS Gayo Daejun with their own dance performance, as Pledis Boys (which was a name Pledis had for a previous project or just a project that evolved into this: Pledis Boyz), despite of having seen them at Love Letter’s
performance, this was the first time the whole group of trainees was
introduced with their own stage time. Though the 8 trainees appeared on
that performance, and we assumed they might all debut at the same time,
whether they would be in two groups or not.
20.On January we were first teased with a picture of
the whole group standing from the back, and then 1 by 1 we had their
profile pictures leaked. Afterwards, there was a second set of profile
pictures uploaded by Pledis.
21.When the group was officially introduced as NU’EST, we all saw how Ren’s image had been changed to appear as the femenine member.
22.Apparently, the 5 members of NU’EST will mimic some aspects from After School in their own way, but we cannot just attach them to just 1 member of their female counterparts, and we cannot know yet whether the other 3 Pledis Boys will be debuting also as After School counterparts.
So far, the way they were introduced, we can tell how Pledis plays the same cards they’ve been playing for AS, having a Leader who give a quiet but responsible image, a member who we assume will be main vocalist (and gives a more caring aura), the group’s TWINS, and the youngest who seems to be more the typical femenine boy on every pretty boys band than just an AS male counterpart.
Though we can also tell how Ren’s appearence seems to mimic NANA’s more than any of the original AS members, although he’ll play the maknae card. As well as the way he looks quiet and childish can also be related to how Uee was showed at first.
Also, as for the Twins thing, in AS the role had been passing through members ever since their debut:
At first the ones who were hard to tell appart were Kahi and Jungah, both with similar hair styles.
By the DIVA era, the role switched to JuYeon and So Young,
who had similar hair styles, but also looked alike by that time and
were really hard to tell apart. Also they used to be displayed on
photoshoots as they were the two cheerful members of the group always
hanging on together.
Nowadays, despite of not having similar hair styles, nor clothes, the TWINS are identified as NANA and JuYeon, since they do have similar personalities and always seem to be together on selcas.
On NU’EST the role seems to decay on Minhyun and Aaron,
having both similar hair styles, but also the same kind of look in
their eyes. When being introduced, they were also introduced together,
and netizens were commenting on how much they looked alike. However, Minhyun’s
solo MV teaser casted his vocal skills making some people assume that
he might be the main vocals for the group, though most of the times, the
one who’s been placed as the Jung-Ah of the group is Baekho.
There’s a possibility that he appears to be a lead vocalist, just some
groups have a main one a lead or even two leads… however, usually boy
groups don’t have members who cannot sing or rap or do both.
But Aaron is also holding the role that Bekah played on AS. Since he’s the American-Korean member, and he’ll be in charge of the English raps.
It’s obvious that JR reminds of Kahi the most.
Baekho, we can assume that he’s like we combined Jung Ah with Raina.
23. It is said that NU’EST music style will be Euro-dance. Lately it was said that it’ll be dubstep and lately they just called it European Urban Dance. Their debut single features an Intro made completely of dubstep beats; the title song FACE, urban dance with a break that contains dubstep beats; and I’m Sorry, an R&B ballad that has some old garage/2step beats in the baseline.
24.About the names:
JR (Junghyun) stands for Junior Royal
(And the name was revealed way before JYP revealed their own JR, which
stands for ‘Junior’ because he’s named just like JYP’s CEO).
Baekho (Dongho) means White Tiger. Uee gave him the name just before they released 2011’s HAPPY PLEDIS.
Ren is Minki. It was first romanized as Len, later as Ren. It’s something usual on Pledis. Just when AS debuted, Kahi’s name was translated as Gahee, later changed into Kahi. Uee’s was typed as U-I, or E-Young’s was translated as Lee Young, then Yi-Young and afterwards E-Young.
It has to do with the way you pronounce hangul consonants depending on
where those are placed. The way it might been placed the ㄹ at
the beginning of the name, makes its sound to be as a soft R more than
an L, which is pronounced when that consonant gets in the middle of a
word and after another consonant or another ㄹ.
25.NU’EST officially debuted on March 15th 2012 on M! Countdown (Mnet) with the title track FACE. A series of teasers have been released since March 4th,
starting with a whole group teaser MV, and then each member at a time,
from Baekho to Aron… The MV features on its story line the other Pledis Boys whom might be TEMPEST members: DoYoon as the bullied boy, Seungchul as the bully gang leader, and then Yoosang, Jihoon and Youngwoon
26.PLEDIS BOYS is also be the name of a magazine published twice a year featuring NU’EST members and showing fashion tips and others. The magazine features all Pledis Boys (Even the ones not joining NU’EST) with interviews and some facts on the boys. Thanx to the magazine we could know that Jihoon (finalist to AS BOYS audition) and Youngwoon have joined the rest of TEMPEST members.
27. About their ages, Pledis
revealed different years and info and, since Koreans count age
differently, there’s been a lot of confusion going around. Lately mostly
all the Korean news sites have been listing NU’EST members as 5-liners, except for Aron who was born on 1993.
28. Note that NU’EST logo, which is a compass, has been showing on most of their live performances’ outfits, as their own badge but THIS LOGO IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE ON THEIR UNIFORMS FOR THE FACE MV, which they wore on their first performance. That other logo could be the logo of Pledis Boys’ since TEMPEST members are also wearing that in FACE MV.
29.The temptative name TEMPEST could stand for similar meaning as NU’EST (which was first leaked as NEW EST)…
